This policy describes how Drive Before Buy ("we", "us", "the site") handles information when you visit. It is written in plain language and is meant to be read, not skipped. If anything here is unclear, treat that as a signal we should have written it better.

What we do not collect

• We do not require accounts, email addresses, or any personal information to read any page on this site.
• We do not collect your name, address, phone number, or payment information. We do not sell anything directly.
• The Weekend Test Drive Checklist does not send your checks or notes to a server. They are stored only in your browser's local storage on your device.
• The cost-vs-remorse calculator runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter do not leave your device.
• We do not currently run third-party advertising networks on this site.
• We do not currently use third-party analytics that track individuals across sites.

What may be collected automatically

If we later add server-side logging, basic web hosting typically records the following for operational and security purposes:

• IP address (or a truncated version thereof).
• Requested URLs and timestamps.
• Browser user-agent string (browser type and version, operating system).
• Referring URL (the page you came from, if any).

This information is standard web server log data. It is not used to identify you personally, and it is not sold or shared with third parties for advertising. If we add an analytics tool in the future, we will update this policy before enabling it.

Local storage

The Weekend Test Drive Checklist uses your browser's local storage to save your checkbox states and notes between visits. This data lives on your device only. It is not transmitted to us. Clearing your browser data will erase it. The "Clear saved checks & notes" button on the checklist page also erases it.

Affiliate links

This site uses affiliate booking links that may send you to Discover Cars or another third-party rental platform. Those third parties may set cookies or use other tracking methods under their own privacy policies.

If an affiliate link results in a booking, the site may receive an anonymized commission confirmation. We should not receive your name, payment information, or booking details from that relationship.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices

• You can use this site without providing any personal information.
• You can clear your checklist data at any time using the "Clear saved checks & notes" button on the checklist page, or by clearing your browser's local storage.
• You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Affiliate-linked third-party platforms may not function identically without cookies, but this site itself works without cookies.
• You can use a privacy-focused browser or browser extensions to block third-party tracking. The site's editorial content does not depend on third-party trackers.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date below and post the revised policy on this page. If we make material changes — for example, adding a new analytics tool or a new category of data collection — we will note them at the top of this page before they take effect.
